Chemical peels explained: strengths, downtime and safety
Superficial to medium peels do different jobs. Understanding depth helps set realistic expectations.

Peel depth determines both the result and the downtime. Superficial peels work within the epidermis and give brightness with little to no visible shedding.
Medium-depth peels reach the papillary dermis and can improve pigmentation and superficial scarring, with visible peeling for three to five days.
Skin type matters. In deeper skin tones, aggressive peeling raises the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation, so conservative protocols with proper priming are safer and just as effective over a course.
